Android Device Manager
avatar

Google recently rolled out a cool new feature called “Android Device Manager”.  This is a great application to have if you lose you phone and all android phones now have it loaded on but not enabled.  This service allows you to find your phone if it is lost.  You can make it ring loudly even if it is muted and you can locate your phone on Google Maps.  The other important feature is that you can remotely wipe your phone if it is stolen.

Enable Android Device Manager:  Go to Settings on your phone -> Security -> Device Administrators -> Check off Android Device Manager.  Once that is done you just need to press the activate button on the new permission screen and you are up and running.

Once it is enabled you can then just go to the website below to use it.

Turn on IP Forwarding in Linux
avatar

By default for security reasons IP forwarding is turned off.  If you are setting up a router or a vpn gateway you will need to turn it back on.  You can just run the following command to turn it on.

echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
